Percussion Wreath
A close friend of mine received a traumatic brain injury on July 4th from a freak accident. He underwent brain surgery and has since been paralyzed on the left side of his body. He is currently in rehabilitation physical training to regain use of that side of his body and is making amazing progress. He is a psychiatrist and percussionist - already having immense intelligence. Thankfully, he never lacked any cognitive abilities from the accident. He also has been able to feel the left side of his body since right after the surgery. He has to stay at the Rehabilitation Center at the Baylor Hospital through August though. This weekend, I made him a "Percussion Wreath" to hang on the door of his room at the hospital - and then can later hang on his door at his office. I made it so that he can take off the mallets and use them later if he wants - they are all rubber or acrylic mallets to be used on xylophone and/or bells. I purchased the mallets at TBA and purchased the rest at Hobby Lobby - this was not a cheap wreath to make by any means, but my friend is definitely worth it. I'm so happy that he really liked it. Here are pictures of the wreath:
Everything on the wreath is personal to my friend - the K is the initial of his last name; the mallets are for him to use as a percussionist; the zebra print flower is because he has visited Africa and very much enjoyed going on safari; the feathers are because he is a bird lover/rescuer (he has rescued chickens and geese and has many at his house - each has their own name); the pearls are because he is so high class; and the music ribbon is for his music soul.
